World number three-ranked Roger Federer cruised into the next round of Wimbledon with a dominating performance against Italy’s Fabio Fognini, 6-1, 6-3, 6-2. Fognini began to show more effort in the second and third sets, but Federer dominated in just 74 minutes. Federer hit 35 winners and 13 aces throughout the match. He also won 21 of 23 net points. Federer last won at Queen’s Club in 2009, and he has been searching to win his seventh title since.

“I was serving well,” said Federer. “You’re not going to get many chances throughout a set, maybe, against me, when I’m serving well. I didn’t think it was that easy of a match. I really tried to focus hard and made sure I played sort of a clean match, which I was able to do again today.”

Federer advances to next play the winner of the Wednesday afternoon match between American Michael Russell and the 29th-ranked Frenchman Julien Benneteau.
