Great Britain’s Andy Murray defeated the 16th-seeded Marin Cilic, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3, in a rain-delayed match at Wimbledon on Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive year. Murray lost in the semifinals in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and is aiming to give Britain its first male champion at the All England Club since 1936.

Murray’s match against Cilic on Court One was suspended on Monday in the second set because of showers. It was delayed until Tuesday because of more rain, then was interrupted again in the second set.

"Obviously in matches you kind of can build momentum and build leads, and then when you stop, once you come back out again, you feel like you’re starting off from square one," said Murray. "But I did well today. He started the third set well. He had a few chances. I came up with some big serves. I served very well in the third set especially. There were three, four stops or something. It’s not easy."

Muray will next face the seventh-seeded David Ferrer of Spain, who reached his first Wimbledon quarterfinal by beating number nine Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. Ferrer saved all four break points he faced while eliminating the 2009 U.S. Open champion. Ferrer had also lost three previous times in the fourth round at the All England Club. He has now made it to at least the quarterfinals at all four Grand Slam tournaments.

“Today was one of my best matches on a grass court,” said Ferrer. “But I’m not sure if is my best or not. At Wimbledon, there is a lot of wind. On an indoor court, [under a] roof, it is easier for to play. The ball does not move and this is more comfortable for us.”
