Wimbledon 2012 Update: Federer Defeats Djokovic to Reach Record Eighth Wimbledon Final

Roger Federer secured his place in a record eighth Wimbledon final as he dethroned reigning champion Novak Djokovic on Friday in four sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Federer, a six-time Wimbledon champ, will face Great Britain’s Andy Murray on Sunday in the men’s singles finals.
"It’s always nice beating someone like Novak, who has done so well here last year, the last couple years,” said Federer. “We’ve never played on grass. It was obviously a big occasion. These matches only help my confidence. I hope I can use it then for the finals.”
Federer forced Djokovic to commit the sort of errors that have been so rare during his dominance at the top of the sport. During a run that has seen him win four of the last six Grand Slam titles, Djokovic has beaten Federer three times, all in the semis.
Federer will attempt to regain the top spot in the ATP Rankings with a win in the finals on Sunday. Should Federer win his 17th Grand Slam championship trophy, he will regain number one spot in the South African Airways ATP Rankings. Federer is already guaranteed to replace Rafael Nadal as the world number two, has been number one for 285 weeks, one week shy of all-time record-holder Pete Sampras’s mark of 286 weeks.
