Cibulkova Captures Second Career Title at Mercury Insurance Open

Dominika Cibulkova defeated Marion Bartoli in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5 to win the Mercury Insurance Open title at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. This is Cibulkova’s second career title and her first since October. Bartoli was unable to keep up after she spent more than eight hours on the court to win her first three matches. Cibulkova won $96,000 and Bartoli received $53,000.
Bartoli fought back to lead in the second set 4-1, but Cibulkova then won four games in a row to lead 5-4 and break Bartoli at 6-5 to capture the match. Cibulkova won all of her matches at this Open in straight sets. Bartoli had 43 double faults in her first three matches leading into the final.
"I just played my game and the first set everything was going my way. I was playing really well and my forehand was working today one-hundred percent,” Cibulkova said. “I’m really happy that I turned around the second set and I didn’t give up. I was still fighting for the second and I won.”
