Andy Roddick, the fourth-seed at the 2012 ATP Atlanta Open, defeated Gilles Muller to capture the title in three sets, 1-6, 7-6, 6-2. This is Roddick’s second title of the year after winning Eastbourne. Muller was seeking his first ATP victory and it seemed he was on track in the first set after he broke Roddick twice, forcing treatment to Roddick’s right shoulder. Roddick went on to fight back in the second set and did not have a single break point throughout. It went down to a tie-breaker where he was unable to hold on to capture the set.
"It’s been frustrating. I had a tear in my hamstring at the Australian Open. I’m not a very good patient; I was supposed to take six weeks off and I took three," said Roddick.
Roddick fought back hard in the third set where he broke Muller twice to go up 5-2 and served the set out to win the final set 6-2. Roddick held off Muller from yet again capturing his first ATP Tour victory.
"I’ve always appreciated [the wins]. I never thought it was easy. I’ve won 32 times now and I have never assumed I would win," said Roddick.
