The International Tennis Federation (ITF) has announced the seeds for the London 2012 Olympic Tennis Event, being staged at the All England Club, Wimbledon from July 28-Aug. 5. Seeds are based on the ATP and WTA world rankings as of Monday, July 23.

Wimbledon champion Roger Federer (SUI) is top seed for men’s singles, with Beijing Olympic bronze medalist Novak Djokovic (SRB) seeded second. Federer, who teamed up with Stanislas Wawrinka to win doubles gold for Switzerland in Beijing, is still looking for his first Olympic medal in singles. Home favorite Andy Murray (GBR) is seeded third, followed by David Ferrer (ESP) at fourth. Ferrer will be leading the Spanish challenge in the absence of defending champion Rafael Nadal through injury.

Americans earned the top seeds in both men’s and women’s doubles. 2008 bronze medal winners Bob & Mike Bryan will be the number one seeds for the third straight Olympics while Liezel Huber & Lisa Raymond, the world’s top-ranked women’s doubles team, top the women’s seeds.

The criteria used also means that two-time gold medal winners and reigning Wimbledon champions Venus & Serena Williams will be unseeded in women’s doubles. The sisters are undefeated together in Olympic doubles, having won the 2008 gold medal in Beijing as the number two seeds and as an unseeded team in Sydney in 2000.
