Due to a knee injury, Olympic Gold Medalist Andy Murray withdrew from the Rogers Cup on Thursday. He is the latest top player to pull out of the tournament as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal withdrew before the beginning of the tournament. Murray injured his left knee during his opening match Wednesday night against Flavio Cipolla. If he continued in the tournament, the Olympic gold medalist would face hometown favorite Milos Raonic in the third round.
"It’s unfortunate. I think it would have been a fun match," Murray said. "I hope he has a good tournament. Be great for him to go deep in this the tournament here for the first time."
It is uncertain whether the fourth ranked player in the world will be able to play in upcoming tournaments. He said he is still unsure if he can play in Cincinnati next week or even the U.S. Open.
"I did a little warm-up on the bike to try it out and it was still sore, so I had to make a decision as to what I was going to do … I don’t want to go full out and possibly do any more damage. That was why I decided not to play."
