On Day Two at the U.S. Open, the second-seeded Agnieszka Radwnaska of Poland started fast and made quick work of her first round opponent with a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 win over Nina Bratchikova of Russia. Radwanska, has never gotten beyond the fourth round in New York, but has been a quarterfinalists at the other three Grand Slams in 2012. Next up for Radwanska is Carla Suarez Navarro. Radwanska admitted that a right shoulder injury is still causing her some concern.
"I’m just trying not to really think about pressure," said Radwanska. "I’m just going to try to play my best here and we’ll see."
On the men’s side of the draw, sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych advanced to the second round with a straight-set win over 56th-ranked David Goffin of Belgium 7-5, 6-3, 6-3. The 21-year-old Goffin had reached a career-high ranking after making the round of 16 at the French Open and the third round at Wimbledon. Berdych, the 2010 Wimbledon runner-up from the Czech Republic, has never been past the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows. Goffin converted just 2 of 18 break points. Berdych had 17 aces and 40 winners.
