In a year where Great Britain’s Andy Murray has already captured Olympic Gold at the 2012 London Games, he’ll also have a shot at taking home the 2012 U.S. Open title after his 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(7) win over sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic Saturday afternoon in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The third-seeded Murray, who has a 99-27 match record at Grand Slam championships, awaits the winner of the Novak Djokovic-David Ferrer semifinals match which was suspended in the first set with Ferrer up 5-2 due to a major storm set to hit the New York area. The match is scheduled to continue to resume at 11:00 a.m. EST on Sunday.

"It’s been a great few months,” said Murray. “To be in the finals and get the chance to play for a Grand Slam is great. My results in the Slams over the last couple of years have been very good. Obviously, this year in the major tournaments, along with the Olympics, it’s been my best year. I have never made two Grand Slam finals in a year, so that’s obviously a good sign that I’m playing better and still learning."

Murray was defeated by Roger Federer 6-4, 5-7, 3-6, 4-6 in the finals of Wimbledon 2012 on his homeland turf in England. The match was delayed 75 minutes due to a tornado warning and high winds. Due to tomorrow’s rescheduled semifinals match, the finals match will be contested late Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. EST. This will mark the fifth consecutive year that the finals will be moved to Monday. In 2013, a day off will be added between the semifinals and finals, either by shifting the semis to Friday or by scheduling the title match to Monday.
