Long Islanders Noah Rubin and Howie Weiss Advance at the 2010 Easter Bowl

The 2010 Easter Bowl, USTA National Spring Championships is a blockbuster showcase of American junior tennis that has been in existence since its 1968 debut in New York City. This year’s event is taking place April 11-18 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. and Palm Desert, Calif., and features Boys and Girls 18, 16, & 14 and Under Divisions. The Boys and Girls 18s are also a top ITF international event with singles, doubles and consolation divisions.
On Wednesday, Noah Rubin the number two seed in the Boys 14’s Division from Merrick, N.Y. is on to the quarterfinals after a straight set win over Kevin Colopy from Utah in the Round of 16. The match was never in doubt. Noah is trying to use the momentum gained in his run to the finals at Le Petit As to make another run at a major junior tournament at the 2010 Easter Bowl.
Howie Weiss of Great Neck, N.Y., the 17th seed in the Boys 16 Division, moves on to a match today in the Round of 16 after upsetting sixth-seeded Anthony Tsodikov from San Francisco impressively in straight sets. Weiss won a first set tie-break and then broke serve in the second set and held on for the big win.

Boys’ 14 Singles (Round of 16)
-Noah Rubin (2) of Rockville Centre, N.Y. defeated Kevin Colopy of Park City, Utah 6-3, 6-4
Boys’ 16 Singles (Round of 32)
-Nicholas Naumann (17) of The Woodlands, Texas defeated Eric Rubin (16) of Lido Beach, N.Y. 1-6, 6-3, 6-4
-Howie Weiss (17) of Great Neck, N.Y. defeated Anthony Tsodikov (6) of San Francisco 7-6(1), 6-3
Girls’ 18 Singles (Round of 16)
-Victoria Duval of Norcross, Ga. defeated Julia Elbaba (12) of Oyster Bay, N.Y. 7-5, 6-2
