World number 95 ranked Russian Vera Zvonareva has pulled out from the Australian Open with a right shoulder injury. The two-time Grand Slam runner-up made the announcement via her Facebook page, stating: ”I will not be able to go to Australia this year … my body is not 100 percent recovered.”
Zvonareva also missed the U.S. Open ion September due to a viral illness and the French Open with the same shoulder injury. Ranked as high as number two in the world, Zvonareva lost the 2010 Wimbledon final to Serena Williams and that year’s U.S. Open final to Kim Clijsters. Zvonareva has won 12 WTA Tour singles titles over the course of her pro career, and was a bronze medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
