Roger Federer advanced to reach a 35th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal, knocking off Milos Raonic in straight sets 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 in a little under two hours. Raonic had success against Federer in previous meetings, but this time around, Federer took control and kept it throughout of their fourth round clash in Rod Laver Arena. He remained the only player in the tournament yet to lose a service game, Federer gave up only five points on his first serve in the match against Raonic. Federer, who is chasing a fifth title at Melbourne Park, will now face seventh-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals.

"I felt good out there," said Federer. "I was moving well, had good anticipation and reaction today, which was key obviously on the return. In the third set I started to feel extremely good on the return.Tonight was a very solid night, so I’m very happy. If I can maintain such a level of play, obviously I’m happy I give myself a chance of going deep in this tournament, which is obviously the goal. I don’t play so much with the fear factor and all that stuff. I really just try to beat them. That’s the only thing."

U.S. Open champion Andy Murray has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win over 14th-seeded Gilles Simon of France. Murray was not overly tested in the match, a match that lasted one hour and 35 minutes. Murray converted on eight of 15 break-point chances, as Simon had trouble holding serve throughout the match. The third-seeded Murray will next play unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in the quarterfinals. Chardy beat number 21 Andreas Seppi 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in his fourth round match.
