Steven Sun of Glen Cove, N.Y. has captured the 2013 Boys National Clay Court Championship 12s singles title over Brandon Nakashima of San Diego, 7-6(3), 6-2 at the Randy Pate Tennis Academy in Winston-Salem, N.C. Seeded fourth coming into the event, Sun upset the top-seeded Nakashima in the finals. In the semis, he was a 6-2, 6-1 victor over the 17 seeded  Drew Baird, and in the quarters, was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Garrett Johns, the seven seed.

Back in January, Long Island Tennis Magazine had a chance to chat with Steven and his coach Maurice Trail. During the interview, Trail predicted big things for Steven in 2013.

"If he continues to work hard physically and improves mentally, 2013 will be a big year for Steven," said Trail in the interview. "He could be number one in the nation in his age group."

With the win, Steven certainly seems to be on the right track to number one in his age group nationwide.
