World number one and top-seeded Novak Djokovic advanced to the 2013 U.S. Open quarterfinals on Tuesday night after a 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 win over Spain’s Marcel Granollers. Djokovic has yet to drop a set during the tournament, and needed only 79 minutes Tuesday night to eliminate Granollers from contention. Djokovic advances to his 18th straight Grand Slam quarterfinal, and will next face Russian Mikhail Youzhny, a 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(3-7), 6-4, 7-5 winner earlier in the day in a near-four-hour match over Lleyton Hewitt. Djokovic leads the lifetime series 5-3 over Youzhny.
"I had some great matches in the past that I can compare with this one today, but definitely today, second and third set have been some of the best tennis that I’ve played on Arthur Ashe in my career," said Djokovic.
Djokovic won the U.S. Open title in 2011 and was runner-up in 2007, 2010 and last year, fell in the finals to eventual winner, Andy Murray.
