Cold Spring Harbor Rolls into the Boys Long Island Championship

First singles player, Josh Levine of Cold Spring Harbor thought he would be getting a little more competition from his match against Roslyn at Garden City High School on Thursday. “I was ready to play Austin (Blau) but they told me he had gotten sick and wouldn’t be available. So I ended up playing their alternate instead.” Blau’s replacement, Jeff Cohen, tried hard and got Levine into some long baseline rallies, but in the end, Cohen just couldn’t overcome Levine’s many weapons in losing 0-6,1-6.
It was that kind of day for Cold Spring Harbor who ended up beating Roslyn by a final of 6-1. “I’m very proud of our guys today,” said Cold Spring Harbor Boys Tennis Coach Paul Poshman. “They put in a very good performance and we are looking forward to the Long Island Championship.”
Second singles player Eric Ambrosio had one of the longer matches of the day in beating his opponent, Alex Berman, by a count of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. The match went back and forth throughout, and was even until the end of the third set, where Ambrosio was able to pull out the victory. With Ambrosio up 5-4 in the deciding set, Berman hit three consecutive balls deep to give himself the 40 -0 edge. A long rally ensued with Berman hitting an errant forehand into the net giving Ambrosio the match.
Cold Spring Harbor controlled the doubles matches as their only doubles team to lose was third doubles. First doubles won 6-1, 6-2; second doubles won 6-3, 6-4; and fourth doubles won by a 6-4, 6-3 margin.
“We have been pretty on all season,” said Cold Spring Harbor first doubles player Alex Tropiano. His partner, Jensen Reiter, added, “We feel pretty confident going into the upcoming championship game. This will be our third time in a row so it is pretty familiar territory.”
The championship game where Cold Spring Harbor will take on the Suffolk County Champion (still to be determined at the writing of this article) will be held at Smithtown High School next Wednesday, May 26th.
