Sara Errani & Roberta Vinci defeated the team of Ekaterina Makarova & Elena Vesnina 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 to capture the 2014 Australian Open Women’s Doubles Title. Errani & Vinci won their fourth Grand Slam doubles title, adding to their previous doubles titles at the French and U.S. Opens in 2012 and the Aussie Open in 2013.
“I want to thank Roberta because she supports me. We have a lot of tense moments, but with her everything is easier,” Errani said. “To have her here on the court as a very good friend makes it easy. Our coach … we know we make you angry so many times … we try our best and sometimes it’s not easy. I think we did a good job.”
The win was Errani and Vinci's 17th overall WTA women’s doubles title together. They won two in 2010 (Marbella and Barcelona), three in 2011 (Hobart, Pattaya City and Palermo), eight in 2012 (Monterrey, Acapulco, Barcelona, Rome, Madrid, Roland Garros, 's-Hertogenbosch and the U.S. Open), three in 2013 (Australian Open, Paris [Indoors] and Palermo) and now one in 2014 (Australian Open).
