Juan Martin del Potro, currently ranked fourth in the ATP Men's Singles Rankings, is currently undergoing treatment for a left wrist injury. Del Potro first experienced the issue during the first round of his Australian Open match against Rhyne Williams earlier in the month in Melbourne. He was defeated in the second round in Melbourne, a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 5-7 loss to the unseeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain. Earlier in January, del Potro won the Apia International Sydney title, defeating Bernard Tomic 6-3, 6-1.
He first suffered pain at the 2012 Western & Southern Open, followed by flare-ups at the 2012 U.S. Open and at the U.S. Open 2013, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship, the BNP Paribas Open and Sony Open Tennis in 2013. He has flown to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. to receive treatment from Dr. Richard Berger, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in wrist and distal radio-ulnar joint disease. An injury to his right wrist limited him to just three tournaments in 2010.
