Novak Djokovic is through to the finals of the 2014 Sony Open Tennis in Miami after a left groin injury forced his opponent Kei Nishikori to withdraw from their Friday semifinals match.
“Very sorry to say that I have to pull out today,” said Nishikori via his Facebook page. “Very disappointed and I am obviously very sorry for any fans that wanted to come out for this match. This tournament is very special to me and look forward to coming back in the years to come. I will work with my medical team to be back healthy as soon as possible.”
The walkover is Djokovic’s second in Miami after Florian Mayer withdrew in the third round. Djokovic awaits the winner of the semifinal match between Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych. Nadal holds a very dominating 17-3 career record over Berdych, with Nadal taking the last 14 matches between the two.
