The Nassau County boys tennis playoffs commenced yesterday as schools from all conferences began play with the same goal in mind: to reach the county championship.

In Conference I-A, Port Washington hosted Hewlett in a first-round matchup. Led by Chirac Doshi who continued his undefeated season at singles, the Vikings disposed of Hewlett 7-0 to advance. Over in Conference I-B, Roslyn and Friends Academy battled it out for a chance to play Cold Spring Harbor in the next round. Both teams traded blows and played an even match throughout the afternoon, with the deciding match coming at third doubles. Roslyn’s Kyle Galin and Sohil Mohan beat SahilMaddand and Skylar Zaken of Friends Academy 6-3, 6-2 to seal the victory for Roslyn. The Bulldogs also got victories from Michael Liebman and Jacob Pion in their respective singles matches to help pace Roslyn, setting up a showdown with Cold Spring Harbor.

Also in the Conference I, Syosset will play Port Washington in the semifinals.

With a chance to play for the Conference II championship on the line, the South Side Cyclones took care of business at home and knocked off North Shore 6-1. North Shore had beaten South Side twice already this season, and despite the overall records, South Side went into the game with something to prove.

"Before the match yesterday we had a meeting where I told the kids, 'make no mistake we are the underdog today. North shore has beaten us twice, they have no reason to fear us'," said Cyclone head coach Chris Colesanti. "They don't care that we are the #1 seed. We have to prove it."

The Cyclones won all four of the doubles matches and took home two victories in singles to claim victory, advancing to the Conference II title game where it will play thr winner of Massapequa and Garden City.

"We came out on the court and I felt we played our best match of the season yesterday and we needed to play well to defeat a very good north shore team," said Colesanti. "We came out serious and focused and determined to do whatever it took to win the match."

In Conference III, the Mepham Pirates remained undefeated as it took down Long Beach 6-1 in a semifinal match. Palmer Clare beat Justin Berry in first singles 6-2, 6-1 to lead the way for Mepham.

More playoff matches will continue today throughout the county as teams look to move one step closer to a county championship.
