Radwanska and Wozniacki Both Finish Off Rain-Delayed Wimbledon Matches to Advance

Agnieszka Radwanska took little time to wrap up her rain-suspended match on Monday night, completing the final set and a half against Andreea Mitu in just over a half hour on Tuesday.
The fourth-seeded Radwanska led 4-2 before the rain came pouring down in England, postponing a number of matches until early Tuesday. She reeled off eight of the nine games on Tuesday to easily march into the second round with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over the Romanian qualifier.
The Pole picked up play on Tuesday by quickly holding serve and then delivering a beautiful backhand winner which gave her the opening set. Things would stay consistent in the second set as Radwanska broke serve and delivered return after return to slowly deflate her Romanian opponent.
Mitu would win the sixth game to keep her alive but just for a short while as Radwanska reeled off the seventh game to complete the victory, winning easily in straight sets. She will next take on Casey Dellacqua of Australia, who defeated Anett Kontaveit 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 in her first-round matchup.
Also resuming play was the 16th-seeded Caroline Wozniacki who picked up just as Radwanska did on Tuesday, easily moving past Israel’s Shahar Peer 6-3, 6-0 to move into the second round. She will meet Great Britain’s Naomi Brady who beat Timea Babos of Hungary 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-0 on Monday.
Andrea Petkovic of Germany also pushed her way into the second round on Tuesday as the 20th-seed disposed of Poland’s Katarzyna Piter 6-4, 6-1, while 25th seeded Alize Cornet came back to beat Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlova 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to secure her spot in the next round.
