In Monday afternoon action at the 2014 U.S. Open, it was world number one Novak Djokovic reaching his 22nd consecutive Grand Slam quarterfinal, defeating Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 at Louis Armstrong Stadium. It has been two years since Djokovic played at Louis Armstrong in Flushing Meadows. Up next for Djokovic in the quarters is Andy Murray, a 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 winner Monday at Arthur Ashe Stadium over Jo-Wilifried Tsonga. Monday's win over the current world number 10 Tsonga marked Murray's first top 10 win in 14 months.

“I haven’t played here in Armstrong for a while,” said Djokovic. “It’s a court with a lot of history. I’m really fortunate to be here.”

This marks the eighth consecutive year Djokovic has advanced to the U.S. Open quarterfinals, as he seeks his fifth consecutive trip to the Open finals.

"I'm very glad obviously that I had so many consecutive quarterfinals at Grand Slams," said Djokovic. "It says that I do value these tournaments the most and try to always perform my best tennis in them. Obviously it motivates me for the future to continue that streak. I feel good about my game, myself. My physical state is pretty good. I'm fit. This is something that is obviously encouraging me for the next one."

With the win, Djokovic moved to a 5-1 over Kohlschreiber lifetime.

“It was very humid for both of us,” said Djokovic post-match as temps hit the mid-90s Monday afternoon in Flushing Meadows. “We had a lot of long rallies. The match could have gone either way, especially in the second set.”
