As the 2014 U.S. Open draws to a close, Sunday will bring two good friends off the court together as foes in the Women's Singles Final on Day 14 of the event. The 10th-seeded Wozniacki from Denmark looks to upset the favorite and top-seeded Serena from the U.S., as Serena seeks her sixth U.S. Open title this afternoon at Arthur Ashe Stadium, having taken home the championship in 1999, 2002, 2008, 2012 and 2013. Wozniacki reached the finals of the U.S. Open in 2009 where she lost to Kim Clijsters.

After her much publicized engagement with golfer Rory McIlroy was called off, Wozniacki, who is playing in her eighth consecutive U.S. Open, grew close to Serena, as the two were spotted often taking in the nightlife in Serena’s hometown of Miami. Today, however, one of these friends will walk away the victor, while the other will have to wait for another shot at redemption.

At the 2013 U.S. Open, Serena became the third oldest woman in the Open Era to win a Grand Slam singles title at the age of 31 years and 348 days. With a win on Sunday, she would become the second oldest Grand Slam champion, at 32 years and 346 days. En route to the finals, Serena is 18-1 since Wimbledon, having won titles at Stanford and Cincinnati—her only loss coming to her older sister Venus in the semifinals in Montreal. Serena holds an 8-1 lifetime edge over Wozniacki in nine career matchups.

Wozniacki has taken Serena to three sets this summer, in the quarterfinals in Montreal and in the semifinals in Cincinnati, but remains 0-4 lifetime against reigning world number one-ranked players, three of those losses to Serena and the other to Dinara Safina in 2009 at Madrid. Wozniacki started the year 15-9 (through the French Open); and since then, has built a 25-5 record, heading into today’s finals match against Serena.

Also on Sunday, the men’s doubles finals will take place beginning at Arthur Ashe Stadium at 12:30 p.m., as the American duo of Bob & Mike Bryan seeks their 100th career men’s doubles title as they face the team of the 11th-seeded duo of Marcel Granollers & Marc Lopez of Spain. The Bryans have a 5-2 career lead in seven matches against Granollers & Lopez, the last meeting won by Granollers & Lopez in the quarterfinals of the 2014 French Open. The Bryans are playing for their 16th Grand Slam championship and fifth at the U.S. Open, having won in Flushing Meadows in 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2012. They are looking to extend their streak of one major title for a 10th straight season.

Also on Sunday on Court 17, the Junior Girls Singles Finals will feature the ninth-seeded Anhelina Kalinina of the Ukraine taking on the unseeded Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic. In the Junior Boys Singles Final features the fifth-seeded Quentin Halys of France taking on the unseeded Austrian, Omar Jasika.
