For the first time in program history, the Adelphi men’s tennis team is the NE-10 Champions.

The Panthers captured its first ever conference title with a 4-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire in early May, denying the Penmen its second straight conference championship.

“It was an incredible effort from the entire team today. I’m proud of them for their fight and for making history,” said Head Coach Rebecca Fakas. “We knew coming in that it was going to be a battle against a tough SNHU team, and they did a great job, staying mentally tough from the beginning.”

NE-10 Championship Most Valuable Player Viktor Hockl added:

“We’ve come a long way. Last year, we had a tough loss against the same team, and we’ve worked hard since then. I’m just so happy for everybody, and I’m happy to be a part of this team.”

The win catapulted Adelphi into the opening round of the NCAA Division III Championships, where the Panthers were ousted by Jefferson University.

Despite the loss, Fakas reflected on the successful season.

“It was a historic season for the men’s team and I’m proud of how far we’ve come,” Fakas reflected. “Winning the NE10 title for the first time and making the final round of regionals are huge accomplishments. Today was a tough loss, but a great learning experience for the group. This year, the team set a new standard for the program, and we will continue to dream big.”
