Americans Bobby Reynolds and Rhyne Williams Advance at U.S Open Qualifiers

At Day Three of 2012 U.S. Open Qualifiers, American Bobby Reynolds, who is trying to advance to his sixth U.S. Open main draw, pulled out a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 win over Australian James Duckworth. Other American men in action were Rhyne Williams and Tennys Sandgren. Williams, a former player at the University of Tennessee, advanced with a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Andrey Golubev of Kazakhstan. Sandgren was unable to pull out a win against number 31 seed Guido Pella of Argentina, losing in straight sets 4-6, 2-6.
On the women’s side of the Qualifying Draw, Americans Lauren Davis, Krista Hardebeck, Shelby Rogers, Brooke Austin, Maria Sanchez and Jessica Pegula were all in action. Of the six players, only Sanchez, a former USC star, advanced to the final round of qualifying, posting a three-set win over Cristina Mitu of Romania.
Men’s and women’s singles play for the main draw of the 2012 U.S. Open begins Monday, Aug. 27.
