Austria’s Dominic Thiem finished off his fantastic February with a title in Acapulco, knocking off Bernard Tomic 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 to win the Abierto Mexicano Telcel championship.

The win moved Thiem to 13-1 in the month of February and picked up two titles in Buenos Aires and now Acapulco.

“It was unbelievable,” said Thiem. “These three weeks have been amazing. Winning my first 500 title and first hard-court title, it was just perfect. It was how a final should be, between two young and up-and-coming players. I hope we’re going to play many more finals together.”

While Thiem was winning in Acapulco, Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka took home the title at the Dubai Duty Free Championships, beating Cyprus’ Marcos Baghdatis 6-4, 7-6(13) in the final.

“It’s an amazing end to the week,” said Wawrinka. “It was a tough beginning, but I was always trying to fight, always trying to improve day by day event if I wasn’t playing great at the beginning. I’m really happy to have another trophy. It’s amazing feeling, especially today when I was playing some really good tennis. It was a tough final against Marcos.”

In Brazil, Uruguay’s Pablo Cuevas won the Brazil Open crown with a 7-6(4), 6-3 triumph over Pablo Carreno Busta in Sunday’s final.
