Beatrice Capra From Maryland Scores Open Upset Against 18th-Seeded Rezai

Another upset at the 2010 U.S. Open took place today on the women’s side as 18-year-old Ellicott City, Md. native Beatrice Capra defeated18th-seeded Aravane Rezai of France, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. Capra’s victory moves her into the third round of the 2010 U.S. Open.

Capra, who entered the 2010 U.S. Open ranked 371st in the world, knocked off 95th-ranked Karolina Sprem of Croatia on Court 6 Tuesday, 6-1, 6-3. Beatrice received a wild card entry into the 2010 U.S. Open, and will play either Iveta Benesova or the number 14 seed, Maria Sharapova, in the third round.
