After two days of bad weather, second-seeded Tomas Berdych was the first player to reach the Aegon Championships quarterfinals on Thursday at The Queen’s Club. He defeated 16th-seeded Grega Zemlja, 6-3, 6-4, for a place in his ninth quarter-final this season. Berdych will face fifth-seeded Marin Cilic, who beat Feliciano Lopez, 4-6, 7-6(5), 7-5, hitting 18 aces and saving seven out of 10 break points.

Coming back from a respiratory illness, third-seeded Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina defeated Dan Evans of Britain, 6-0, 6-3. Del Potro was the London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist on the grass-courts at Wimbledon. He will next be playing former world number one and four-time champion Lleyton Hewitt. Hewitt beat sixth-seeded Sam Querrey, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, fourth seed, won his first match against fellow Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3. He gained another victory with a win over Igor Sijsling, 7-5, 5-7, 6-3.

Top-seeded Andy Murray defeated Nicolas Mahut, resuming the match at 6-3, 2-2, 15/0, and finishing his win, 6-3, 7-6(4). Murray lost against Mahut in last year’s encounter at The Queen’s Club.

The ATP World Tour had 12 single matches scheduled to be played on Thursday at The Queen’s Club.
