Eugenie Bouchard defeated Shahar Peer in her opening round match at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL in Acapulco, 6-2, 6-2. The win was Bouchard’s third in three career meetings with Peer. Bouchard, seeded second at the event, advances to play Lara Arruabarrena in the second round.
Dominika Cibulkova, seeded number one at the event, converted on all three of her break point chances in her 6-3, 6-4 win over Urszula Radwanska.
"My serve was not 100 percent today, but I'm pretty happy with the way I played because Urszula is a tricky player and is always hard to play," Cibulkova said. "This is my first time here. I want to keep coming. There are only one or two tournaments in the world like this. The fans are so nice. The venue is just beautiful. I'm in love with the place and the tournament."
American qualifier Victoria Duval advanced in Acapulco as well, defeating Iveta Melzer, 6-2, 6-4. It was Duval’s first win in a WTA main draw since her upset of Samantha Stosur in the first round of the 2013 U.S. Open.
