Bouchard Downs Giorgi to Reach Hobart Semifinals

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard made her way into the Hobart International semifinals on Thursday, rolling past second-seeded Italian Camila Giorgi 6-3, 6-2.

Neither player was able to do much on their own serve, but it was Bouchard whose return game was more consistent. She converted on four of her nine break points in the opening set, and picked up three more in the second set to move past Giorgi in one hour and eight minutes.

“Luckily I was able to find my game,” said Bouchard. “It’s very cold out.”

Bouchard will take on Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova. The former Australian Open finalist dispatched Kiki Bertens 6-3, 7-5 to book her spot in the semifinals.

Sweden’s Johanna Larsson hung on to beat Great Britain’s Heather Watson 6-7(3), 6-2, 7-6(3) and move into the final four. Larsson will play Alize Cornet, who advanced when ninth-seed Mona Barthel had to withdraw with a back injury.
