The Syosset Braves are now two matches away from completing a perfect regular season following a 7-0 rout of Locust Valley in Conference I-B action Monday afternoon. Daniel Shleimovich continued to lead the way for Syosset, defeating Dylan Appel 6-1, 6-2, as the Braves improve to 11-0 overall and 10-0 in Conference I-B. Syosset plays Friends Academy this afternoon and Manhasset on Wednesday, as it attempts to finish the 2014 season undefeated.

Syosset was not the only team looking to stay perfect on Monday, as the Mepham Pirates and Plainedge Red Devils also had thoughts of a perfect season.

The 9-0 Mepham Pirates hosted Glen Cove in a Conference III contest. Both teams exchanged points and the match would come down to the final fourth doubles, which would require a third set tie-breaker. The Pirates would pull out that match and clinched the overall match 4-3 over Glen Cove. Mepham has one match left on the schedule in pursuit of their undefeated season, a trip to Hicksville Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.

Plainedge (11-0) had a home match with New Hyde Park, and were led by Zach Chang at first singles who continued his winning ways. Chang has yet to lose at first singles this season and knocked off New Hyde Park’s Zack Imperial 6-4, 6-3. Dylan Pagan & Kyle Olekask also remained undefeated in third doubles as Plainedge cruised to a 5-2 victory. Up next for Plainedge is a Wednesday afternoon match against Valley Stream South at 4:30 p.m., one step away from a undefeated season.

Roslyn improved to 10-2 on the season, as it squeaked out a 4-3 victory over Friends Academy in Conference I-B. The deciding match came at fourth doubles as Sangjin Song & Zachary Fu of Roslyn dueled with Friends’ Andy Muran & Ian Friedman. In a very competitive match, the Roslyn pair would come out victorious 7-6(9-7), 6-4 to clinch the victory for Roslyn in its final regular season match of the year.

Hewlett traveled to Port Washington to take on the red hot Pirates in Conference I-A. Max Egna & Austin Egna defeated Chris Kramer & Matt Kirschenblatt at first doubles 6-2, 6-1 to pace the way for Port Washington who improves to 9-1 in the county’s top conference. Port Washington closes out the season Wednesday when they travel to Cold Spring Harbor for a 4:30 p.m. match, while Hewlett hosts Valley Stream Central to end their regular season also on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Plainview JFK headed to Valley Stream Central, and got a victory from a player making his singles debut. Alex Fried had played doubles all season, but got a chance to play his first singles match of the year on Monday afternoon. He fell behind in both sets, 4-5 in the first and 0-4 in the second, but fought back in both to win the match in straight sets 7-6, 6-4. Plainview JFK picked up the victory 5-2, and improved to 4-8.

In Conference II action, Massapequa visited Garden City as it looked to inch closer to the second-place Trojans. The Chiefs received excellent play from its singles players, as Nasser Ghaffar, Andrew Bentz and Daniel Kafka all notched victories in their respective matches. Both Bentz and Kafka had to battle back in their matches, but came out with the win to improve Massapequa’s record to 8-4.

Carle Place hit the road to take on East Meadow in Conference III-A action as it looked to move closer to a playoff spot. It did just that by taking down East Meadow 6-1 on the backs of its singles players, who all won their matches in straight sets. It would also take two of the doubles points, as Carle Place extended its winning streak to three matches and improved its record to 8-3.
