Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark has taken over the top ranking in the world from Serena Williams on Thursday with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic at the China Open in Beijing. The rise to number one comes shortly after Wozniacki made a run to the semifinals at last month’s 2010 U.S. Open.

Wozniacki takes over the top spot while Serena is on the sidelines, having not played since Wimbledon with a foot injury. Wozniacki has 11 career singles titles and is the top seed at the China Open, where Williams was forced to withdraw because of her injury.
