Six-time U.S. Open Champion Chris Evert and ESPN’s Mike Greenberg will play a mixed-doubles match in the U.S. Open National Playoffs Eastern Qualifying event, Monday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The team of Evert & Greenberg will play 2002 NCAA singles champion (for Wake Forest) Bea Bielik of Valley Stream, N.Y., who also reached the third round of the 2002 U.S. Open & former University of Virginia standout Darrin Cohen, the director of tennis at Sportime in Kings Park, N.Y.
"I know Mike is a big tennis fan and loves the U.S. Open," said Evert. "The U.S. Open was the first tournament that sort of started my career, and I have great memories of it, and I love to support it. We’ll just go out there and have some fun. That’s the main thing. Let’s not have high expectations with this."
Competitors at the U.S. Open National Playoffs include top-ranked juniors, college players, senior players (age 60 and over), tennis club teaching pros, former touring pros, and weekend warriors and recreational players, including USTA League players.
