Commack Stays Hot With Win Over Ward Melville

Senior captain Andy Zhou helped lead Commack to its 12th win of the season on Monday.

 

The Commack Cougars won its second straight contest on Monday afternoon, beating Ward Melville 5-2 in a non-league showdown.

Commack got things started on the doubles court, winning all three of the doubles flights in straight sets to take the early 3-0 lead. Needing just one singles victory to secure the victory, Commack’s Peter Yu won his 13th match of the season in the second singles spot to clinch the win.

Senior captain Andy Zhou chipped in with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win to help Commack improve to 12-3 on the season. The Cougars have won four of its last five matches.

The Thunderbirds of Half Hollow Hills East remained undefeated on the season, sweeping all seven courts for a 7-0 victory over Smithtown West on Monday afternoon. Tyler London and Sandy Greenberg led the way for Hills East, posting a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Alex Amadeo and Nick Gajda at first doubles.
