The United States will take on Serbia in a tough first round Davis Cup matchup beginning today. The Americans will be counting on some of their young guns, as Jon Isner and Sam Querrey will be the two singles players for the U.S. This is the first time since 2000 that neither Andy Roddick or James Blake will represent the U.S. team in Davis Cup play.

Besides inexperience in Davis Cup play, the Americans will also have to overcome the court surface and the crowd. The matches will all be played on a slow clay court which is not ideal to the style of play that the Americans prefer. The atmosphere will also be loud as a crowd of 20,000 is expected in Belgrade Stadium and they will certainly be cheering on their native Serbs.

Sam Querrey is set to take on the second-ranked player in the world Novak Djokovic. John Isner will make his Davis Cup debut against Viktor Troicki (ranked 35 in the world) on Friday. In doubles Saturday, the Americans hopes will shift to the top-ranked doubles team in the world of Bob and Mike Bryan who will face Nenad Zimonjic and Janko Tipsarevic. On Sunday they will play reverse singles, meaning Isner will take on Djokovic and Querry will face Troicki. The country to win three out of the five matches will advance to the second round.
