Novak Djokovic has been ranked number one atop the ATP Men’s Singles Rankings for 100 weeks, becoming the ninth player to reach the milestone, joining Andre Agassi (101 weeks), Rafael Nadal (102), Bjorn Borg (109), John McEnroe (170), Jimmy Connors (268), Ivan Lendl (270), Pete Sampras (286) and Roger Federer (302). Djokovic reached number one in July of 2011 and lost the top spot to Federer for three months in 2012, but regained it in November of that year.
Djokovic’s bid to finish the year at number one for a third consecutive is under serious threat from Nadal. Djokovic has 11,120 points, while Nadal has 10,860.
"I was taught to dream big and to dream to be number one in the world," said Djokovic. "It takes years of hard work and dedication. It is a long process to become a champion. Tennis is a very specific and unique sport, where you take all the credit or all the blame."
