While Andy Murray is a retired professional tennis player now, he will very much be a part of the ATP Tour as we enter 2025. The three-time major champion will be part of Novak Djokovic’s coaching staff in the New Year, the two announced in a statement on social media on Saturday.

“I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net as my coach,” said Djokovic. “Looking forward to [the] start of the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy with whom I have shared man exceptional moments with on the Australian soil.”

Murray retired from his 19-year playing career back in August, and will now begin the next stage of his tennis career in 2025.

“[I’m] really excited for it, and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals,” said Murray.

Djokovic and Murray were born just a week apart in May 1987, and first competed against one another as juniors when they were 11-years-old. In their pro careers, Djokovic held a 25-11 record against Murray which included four Djokovic wins in Australian Open finals. Murray beat Djokovic in the 2012 U.S. Open and 2012 Wimbledon finals.

“We had some of the most epic battles in our sport. I thought our story may be over, [but it] turns out it has one final chapter,” Djokovic narrated in the video. “It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner.”
