Novak Djokovic of Serbia, ranked number two in the world, defeated top-ranked Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Sony Ericsson Open, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Djokovic has captured four titles, including the Australian Open, Dubai and, now, back-to-back elite Masters titles at Indian Wells and Miami, both with victories over Nadal in the finals.

Djokovic completed his come from behind win over Nadal with a forehand shot, breaking into a grin and dropping his racquet as he realized victory was his. Djokovic remains flawless in 2011, extending his undefeated streak to 24-0 with the win in Miami over Nadal. Only Ivan Lendl owns a more impressive streak to start the season when he went 25-0 in 1986.

“Such a close match,” said Djokovic. “To win against the number one player in the world in a tie-break in the third set, it’s just incredible.”

Djokovic also captured the Sony Ericsson Open title in 2007. With his win, he joined an elite group including Roger Federer, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras as the only players to win the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami in the same year.
