Djokovic Top-Seeded in U.S. Open Men’s Singles Draw

The USTA has announced that world number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the reigning Australian Open champion and the 2011 U.S. Open champion, has been named the top seed in men’s singles at the 2013 U.S. Open. The 2013 U.S. Open will be played at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y., Aug. 26-Sept. 9.
Djokovic, a six-time Grand Slam champion, will be followed by number two-seeded Rafael Nadal of Spain, the reigning French Open champion and 2010 U.S. Open champion; the number three seed Andy Murray of Great Britain, the defending U.S. Open champion and reigning Wimbledon champion; and four seed David Ferrer of Spain, a 2012 U.S. Open semifinalist. Five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer of Switzerland, will be seeded at number seven.
Djokovic is 44-8 this year leading up to the U.S. Open. He has reached the U.S. Open final every year since 2010, winning the title in 2011. Djokovic has held the number one ranking for all of 2013.
John Isner will be the highest-seeded American at 13, followed by Sam Querrey at 26.
The singles draws for the 2013 U.S. Open will be revealed live during an official draw ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 22 at noon ET at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The draw will be streamed live on USOpen.org. Defending U.S. Open champions Andy Murray and Serena Williams will make an appearance at the event.
