Serbia and Croatia will face off in their Davis Cup tie this weekend in Kraljevo, Serbia at the Kraljevo Sports Centre and Serbian police are looking into why the majority of fans who waited outside the arena for tickets last week were unable to purchase tickets to the event.

According to the German Press Agency, the police began investigating the potential controversy after Serbian star and world number one Novak Djokovic accused organizers of criminal acts.

“It is clear that somebody committed a criminal act, and someone absolutely must be held responsible,” Djokovic told Belgrade newspaper Blic. “I am very disappointed. Tickets cannot disappear after 13 minutes … unless you put only 50 up for sale.”

The arena holds 3,000 people, yet only 50 tickets were available to the public when tickets on sale. Djokovic said he was told that about 1,500 would be available for sale to the public.

“In the end, all were sold though the sale never started,” Djokovic added. “I regret all of this, because we picked Kraljevo, wanting to bring the event to the people there.”

The majority of the tickets were allegedly given to politicians and other prominent figures with connections, prompting Djokovic to accuse the event organizers of criminal violations.

The playoff tie between Croatia and Serbia is set to begin this Friday, March 6th.
