World number one Novak Djokovic continued his domination this year, downing 16th-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-2, 6-4 to win the Shanghai Rolex Masters for the ninth title of his season.

The win comes on the heels of his victory at the China Open in Beijing. He went through both tournaments without dropping a single set, and has now won 17 straight matches overall.

“This has been the best two weeks of my life, my career,” said Djokovic. “Energy-wise, I was great. I didn’t get tired. I always had plenty of intensity, concentration, a high performance level from the first match in Beijing to today’s match.”

Djokovic was on from the start, and gave himself plenty of chances to break on the excellent serving Tsonga. He converted three of his seven break points in the first, and while Tsonga played better tennis in the second set, the top-ranked Serb secured the lone break of the set to wrap this one up in straight sets.

After the match, Tsonga said what was on the minds of all of Djokovic’s opponents.

“Today, there is nothing to say. He’s playing a lot better than everybody,” said Tsonga. “You have to be in your best shape to beat him anyway, and everybody knows that it’s not easy to play your best tennis every match.”
