American Victoria Duval was unable to match her success from two nights earlier in her encore performance at the U.S. Open falling in straight sets 2-6, 3-6 to Daniela Hantuchova. The 17-year-old Duval was unable to replicate the performance she had in her opening round upset over 2011 U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur. Hantuchova was able to dispatch of Duval in just one hour and 12 minutes.

"I don’t think I ever felt free in the match today," said Duval. "I don’t think it had to do with the score or anything. She hits really hard and I couldn’t really get myself going. I just never felt comfortable. I missed a couple of really close shots when I had opportunities. A couple of shots make the difference in matches … and I don’t really have an easy time playing in the dark with my glasses."

The pressure seemed to be a factor today, but Duval looks forward to improving, growing and being a good role model.

"Obviously winning my first round match was quite an achievement. I’m just really proud that I’ve been able to give myself a good image on the court, and off the court," said Duval. "I was touched by all the little kids that came up to me and told me I’m their role model. I think for a 17-year-old, that’s pretty cool."
