Roger Federer enjoyed a straight set 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 win over Argentina’s Carlos Berlocq in the second round of the U.S. Open. The five-time U.S. Open champion needed just 95 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium court to dispatch the overmatched Berlocq and secure a spot in the third round where he will face Adrian Mannarino in the next round. Mannarino advanced by defeating American Sam Querrey in four sets.

"It’s one of those matches I expected myself to win if possible in straight sets, and gain confidence in the process," said Federer. "All those things happened, so I’m pleased about it."

Rafael Nadal remained undefeated on hard courts this year by defeating Rogerio Dutra Silver of Brazil 6-2, 6-1, 6-0 to advance into the third round of the U.S. Open. Nadal is now 17-0 on hard courts this year, a run that has brought him tournament titles at Indian Wells, Montreal and Cincinnati leading up to the Open. Nadal faced only one break point in the 92-minute win. He will next play Ivan Dodig of Croatia, who was a 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 winner over Russian Nikolay Davydenko.

"In New York, the nighttime sessions are special," said Nadal. "The show, the music, the crowd, you know, is a little bit more like showtime and I love the crowd in New York. I feel great every time that I have the chance to play in Arthur Ashe Stadium."
