Ferrer to Face 17-Year-Old Zverev in Hamburg Open Semis

David Ferrer made short work of fellow Spaniard Pablo Andujar 6-0, 6-2 in just over an hour to advance to the semifinals of the bet-at-home Open in Hamburg. Ferrer is after his second ATP World Tour title of the season this week, entering Hamburg as a wild card and is making his first appearance in Hamburg since a semifinal run in 2009 where he lost to Nikolay Davydenko.
In the semis, Ferrer will meet upstart 17-year-old Alexander Zverev of Hamburg, after Zverev’s win over Tobias Kamke, 0-6, 7-5, 6-3. Ranked 285th in the world, Zverev had never won a Tour-level match coming into the Hamburg Open and earned his spot in the quarterfinals with dropping a set, having beating Robin Haase, the fifth-seeded Mikhail Youzhny and 11th-seed Santiago Giraldo en route to his semifinals match.
At 32 years of age, Ferrer is 15 years older than his semifinals opponent Zverev.
"I wasn't nervous, I just didn't expect him to play as well as he did in the first set," said Zverev of his quarterfinals match against Kamke. "He played unbelievable. I just didn't know what to do. I think I played a really great match after the first set. Luckily I got the break at the beginning of the second set and I'm happy with the way I ended it."
Also locking up a trip to the semis is world number 46 Leonardo Mayer, a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Dusan Lajovic. Mayer awaits the winner of the match between Lukas Rosol and Philipp Kohlschreiber to determine his opponent in the semis.
