The Mardy Fish Retirement Tour makes its final stop in Flushing Meadows this week at the 2015 U.S. Open, and after his opening round match Monday on the Grandstand, the Tour will continue. Fish faced Marco Cecchinato of Italy, making his Grand Slam debut in Flushing Meadows, and defeated the Italian 6-7 (7-5), 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. In 2012, Fish was forced to withdraw at the Open before his fourth-round match against Roger Federer due to a panic attack, and had not played in Flushing Meadows since.

“This is a special place,” said Fish in his post-match interview. “I’m glad I got to come here one more time.”

Fish, a Minnesota native, is making his 13th main draw appearance, and with the win, moves to an overall 19-11 record at the final Grand Slam of 2015. Fish now has a 52-37 career record in Grand Slam tournaments, with his best results as quarterfinals appearances: The 2007 Australian Open (a loss to Andy Roddick), the 2008 U.S. Open (a loss to Rafael Nadal) and at Wimbledon in 2011 (a loss to Nadal).

Up next for Fish is a meeting with the 18th-seeded Feliciano Lopez of Spain. Lopez was a 7-6, 6-1, 6-3 winner Monday over Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili.
