Former Number One Ivanovic To Miss Rest of 2016
Former world number one and French Open champion Ana Ivanovic will miss the rest of 2016 to take care of wrist and toe injuries, the Serb announced on Tuesday.
“I have some disappointing news to share with you,” Ivanovic said in a statement she posted to Twitter. “Unfortunately, due to my recurring wrist injury, I have been advised by my doctor to take some time off the court, in order to recover and regain my full strength.
I have also been delaying surgery on my toe, which I broke at the Australian Open in January last year, and this is something that I will need to take care of in the upcoming weeks.”
Ivanovic’s last match came in the first round of the U.S. Open last week where she lost to Denisa Allertova in straight sets, her fourth consecutive defeat in a row.
“I will miss competing in some of my favorite tournaments in Japan and China this year. I had to make this difficult decision so that I can fully recover and play injury-free next year,” Ivanovic added. “Thank you to my family and friends, my dear fans, my team and sponsors for their ongoing support and encouragement.
I can’t wait to play again and be back on court fully fit in 2017.”
