American Mardy Fish will miss the Australian Open in January as he continues to recover from health issues related to heart surgery. Fish underwent a procedure in May to correct a form of arrhythmia and is "improving" and plans to return to the ATP Tour in February at the SAP Open in San Jose. Fish has not played since the U.S. Open in September when he was forced to pull out before his fourth-round match against Roger Federer due to heart palpitations. He began the year ranked at number eight on the ATP World Tour Rankings but has slipped to the number 27 spot. He remains the third-ranked American behind John Isner at 14 and Sam Querrey at 22.
"The good news is that Mardy’s health is improving and he is back on the court slowing getting back into his regular workouts," said Fish’s agent, John Tobias.
