Hingis and Mirza Capture Second Straight Grand Slam Title

The team of Martina Hingis & Sania Mirza continued their dominant women’s doubles play Sunday afternoon, defeating the number four seeds, Casey Dellacqua & Yaroslava Shvedova, 6-3, 6-3 to win the U.S. Open Women’s Doubles Title and their second straight Grand Slam title.
The top-seeded duo of Hingis & Mirza hit 26 winners to just 14 unforced errors, and converted on five of 10 break points to move past Dellacqua & Shvedova in straight sets.
“It feels like I’m doing it all over again,” said Hingis, who won the U.S. Open doubles title back in 1998. “But I’m not thinking, ‘Okay, the last time was 18 years ago.’ What counts for me is right now, today, in this moment. I know I have the support and the trust that I have for her shots and for her game, and it builds up every time we step out together.”
Hingis & Mirza now have five titles together on the season, including hoisting the trophy at Wimbledon earlier this summer.
“We try to help each other out if the other one is struggling. That’s kind of the key,” Mirza said of the partnership. “We’re happy to win our second Slam together. We didn’t think that this was going to happen so soon. Hopefully we can keep building. We’re the number one team in the world, so we have to keep building on this.”
