Kim Clijsters, who is still nursing an ankle injury suffered at her cousin’s wedding in early April, will not take part in this week’s Italian Open. Clijsters joins both Vera Zvonareva and the number 16th-ranked Venus Williams who will also be sitting out of the Italian Open.

Clijsters’ latest mishap may force her to miss the upcoming French Open as well. In early April, she was wearing high heels at her cousin Tim’s wedding when she stepped on someone’s foot, stretching her ankle ligaments at the ankle joint capsule and tendon sheath. She was forced to keep her right ankle immobilized for several days and left her on crutches.
