Isner and Roddick Both Advance in Paris

American John Isner advanced on Tuesday at the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris with a 6-7(3), 7-5, 7-6(5) win over Stanislas Wawrinka from Switzerland. Fellow American Roddick defeated Julien Benneteau of France, 6-4, 6-4 also on Tuesday in Paris. Roddick, currently ranked 15th in the world, rallied from 3-1 down in the final set to convert his first match point with a backhand volley.

American Donald Young failed to move on as he suffered a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Argentinian Juan Monaco. Kevin Anderson of South Africa is also going home after a 6-4, 7-6(4) loss to Richard Gasquet of France. The number six seed, France’s Jo Wilifried-Tsonga defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 6-3, 6-4. Feliciano Lopez of Spain defeated Michael Llodra of France 7-6(7), 6-3. Croatia’s Ivan Dodig got past Fabio Fognini of Italy 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Awaiting Dodig in the second round is world number one and top-seeded Novak Djokovic. Also, Sergiy Stakhovsky of the Ukraine defeated Kei Nishikori of Japan, a finalist at last week’s Swiss Indoors, 6-4, 6-3.
