Isner Falls in Buenos Aires

American John Isner was ousted from the Argentina Open on Wednesday as Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic took him out 7-6(10), 4-6, 7-6(6) in the tournament’s second round in Buenos Aires.
Isner didn’t have his serve broke once, and didn’t even face a break point in the three-set match, but was outdone by Lajovic in first and third set tiebreakers.
The American notched a break of serve in the second set, but failed to capitalize on his only chance to break in the third set before falling in the tiebreaker.
Lajovic will move on to play fifth-seeded Austrian Dominic Thiem, who had to come back from a set down and fight off a match point to move past Portuguese qualifier Gastao Elias 3-6, 7-6(7), 6-3.
Third-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga cruised past Argentina’s Leonardo Mayer 6-1, 6-2 in his opening match in Buenos Aires.
Tsonga converted on two break points in each set to easily move past Mayer in less than an hour to reach the quarterfinals, where he will take on Spain’s Nicolas Almagro.
Almagro took out Federico Delbonis, holding off the Argentinean 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to book his spot in the final eight.
The tournament’s top two seeds, Spaniard’s Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer, will open up their Buenos Aires campaigns today.
